Greening the European Neighborhood Policy

Duration of the project – one year (till November 2006).
Funded by the European Commission.
Project’s partners – WWF and Hbf.

Objectives of the project:

- enable civil society participation in Ukraine;
- promote sustainable development and environmental integration within the ENP process;
- foster good governance and project cooperation both between the EU member states and the Neighbourgood Countries and among the NC.

The principal activities within the project will be:

- Analysis of the situation in the key environmental fields in order to provide recommendation on the solution of concrete problems. This will include preparation of the report, which will be used for lobbing strategy at the national level and the EU level. The assessment will be made on the following issues: fresh water; public participation/access to the environmental information; wastes; strategic environmental assessment; transport ways; biodiversity (illegal trade of enlarged species of fauna and flora, transboundary environmental corridors).

- Holding of round tables for NGOs from Ukraine in order to inform them about the ENP and to discuss the prepared report. The round tables will take place in three regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv).

- Holding of mass media events in order to inform them in environmental aspects of the ENP and Ukraine-EU Action Plan.

- Creation of the network of NGOs and state bodies in order to discuss problems and to find ways for their solution within the ENP process.
